Manufacturing companies around the world are facing substantial challenges due to recent environmental, societal, economic and technological developments. To meet these challenges the manufacturing companies of the future will need capabilities for managing their whole value-chain in an agile and responsive manner. Industry 4.0 refers to recent technological advances where the internet and supporting technologies serve as a backbone to integrate physical objects, human actors, intelligent machines, production lines and processes across organizational boundaries to form a new kind of intelligent, networked and agile value chain. Such a far reaching vision will lead to an increased complexity of manufacturing processes. The webinar will discuss how companies can deal with this complexity and fully exploit the potential of Industry 4.0.
Dr. Donato Masi is a Faculty in Operations Management at Aston Business School in Birmingham. He holds a PhD degree in Management Engineering and MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Italy. He is a specialist in the areas of Industry 4.0 with a focus on Sustainable Operations and Supply Chain Management. He has published several scientific papers in the top ranked international journals in the areas of Industry 4.0. He actively collaborates with industry through private and public funded research projects. He is currently focusing on how digitalisation and the emerging Industry 4.0 approach can enhance the sustainability of Operations and Supply Chains.
